Out of Gauge (OOG) is a term we use to describe cargo of which the dimensions exceed the measurements of a standard, dry van container. An item can be too long, too high, too wide, or a combination of all of these. There are special containers to accommodate cargo which is too high, known as an Open Top container. For cargo which is either too wide or too long, you may be able to use a Flat Rack container. The cargo cannot have excessive width and length, as lifting the flat rack then becomes impossible. As Out of gauge containers take up more space on a ship, carriers charge you for all slots they take up on board.
